Christmas Swim for Shane McMahon

On Christmas Day, whatever the weather, I and loads more will be jumping into Creevy Lake in Carrickmacross to support local man, Shane McMahon.
Shane and his family have been close friends of mine for years and we were all devastated by the news that Shane had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in October. Shane, and his fiancée, Roslyn along with their son Clarke and new baby due in January, need our help.
They also deserve it, Shane and his family are known far and wide for supporting worthy causes and are active in several community organisations. Shane himself has been an active member of Carrickmacross Emmets GAA club and Carrick Rovers Soccer club and has taken on the unenviable role of referee in both codes in recent years.
Unfotunately there is currently no cure for Motor Neuron Disease, however symptoms can be managed to help the person achieve the best possible quality of life.
Motor Neuron Disease is a progressive neurological condition that attacks the motor neurons, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. The effect of this is that the messages sent by the brain gradually stop reaching the muscles. This leads to weakness and wasting of muscles which can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and even breathe. People with this disease rely on those around them to support and care for them increasingly as the disease progresses.
Funds raised from this years annual Carrickmacross Emmets Christmas Day swim will be used to support Shane for his future medical care costs; medical equipment costs; and home modification and adaptation costs.
These needs will be substantial and all support is desperately needed and will be greatly appreciated. Please, don't waste a minute - donate what you can immediately! As well as helping Shane you will also be getting the opportunity to watch me shivering in swimming togs in the middle of winter...
