Christmas at Pink House Orphanage

Donation protected
Last December, with your help, the Piedra family traveled to Puerto Rico to make the holidays easier for nearly 100 families who would otherwise not have had a merry Christmas after Hurricane Maria devastated the island. We send a huge thank you to each of you for your generosity in making Christmas a little brighter and easing the burden for those families. Those of you who give your time, money, effort or talents in the service of others know how the spirit of selflessness impacts each of us and those around us. The Piedra Family believes this spirit can change a small moment in someone’s life….and small moments have a lasting impact.

This year, the Piedra Family, with your help, is heading to the Dominican Republic where a special group of children, living at La Casa Rosada (The Pink House), needs our help. We are turning to all of you again to ask for your support.

Established in 2001, La Casa Rosada—The Pink House—is an orphanage in the heart of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, that provides health care, housing, education and job training for orphans afflicted with HIV. The nuns who govern the orphanage do so because they believe HIV-infected orphans represent one of the most critical social problems in the Dominican Republic, and the Caribbean. The Pink House is funded by donation only and the donations they receive are not enough to sustain their needs throughout the year.  We are going to change that.

This year, the Piedra Family, with your help, is heading to the Dominican Republic to make a difference at La Casa Rosada.

The children all go to school and have medical needs, just like our kids.  The medical needs of the entire orphanage cost approximately $800 a month and this includes HIV medications.  Our goal is to help the children grow up to be happy, value-added citizens in their own communities.  In addition, we believe kids pay forward the good will they witness through example.

Our 2018 goal is simple; help provide a Merry Christmas for the kids AND enable the staff and doctors to nurture the children for a prosperous future. This year, we are going to fly to Santo Domingo and do the following, with all of the funds that are raised:

1.     Purchase and hand deliver gifts to each of the resident children.  We have been in contact with the staff at La Casa Rosada and they have been collecting the kids’ wish lists.

2.     Throw a Christmas party for the volunteer nuns and the children.

3.      Provide funds directly to the medical facility in which the children receive treatment and medication to cover the cost of the medication for all of the kids for a full year.

It’s a tall order, but it’s a critical need!  We know we can make this happen.  It is important to us that you know every single penny donated will be levied directly to the party, gifts and medicine.  The Piedra Family will cover the cost of travel and lodging.

Thanks to you all for your support.  We can’t wait to share the good work you are all doing!
