Christina Burns Kidney Transplant Recovery Fund

Local family of four in need of financial support.

Please help provide financial support to the Burns Family in preparation of Christina's upcoming kidney transplant.

Five and a half years ago, Christina and her Family suffered the tragic loss of their unborn child due to an acute infection that spread throughout Christina's body. In June of 2017, Christina was 18 weeks pregnant when she was diagnosed with a shorten cervix, a medical condition that can cause preterm labor. Her condition was so advanced that it required immediate surgical intervention. The procedure was successfully performed and both her and baby seemed to have tolerated it well.

However, less than two weeks later Christina was hospitalized when doctors determined she had an acute infection. Her infection was so severe that it lead her into sepsis and then into multiple organ failure.

Christina would spend the next three weeks at UC Davis fighting for her own life.

With both support from her friends and family and her own incredible strength, Christina had recovered enough to return home. However ,her kidneys were severely damaged. Due to financial strain, she return to work in November of 2017 to help provide for her family.

In June of 2018, one year after her loss, Christina's health had another sudden decline. She was seen by her Nephrologist and found she was once again facing renal failure. This lead to her eventually being placed on the donor list to receive a new kidney. Later that year she was matched with a potential donor, sadly, this donor would prove medically unfit.

Christina continued to work incredibly hard to help support her family despite her dangerously low kidney function. Over the last few years, her and her family have faced multiple medical scares as her kidney function slowly declined. She had begun to loss hope of finding a donor.

It wasn't until earlier this year that Christina was blessed with another willing donor. They have completed the process for medical clearnace and she is now facing major surgery for her new kidney transplant next week.

Her recovery time will be extensive and this will leave her husband, Zack, to be primary caregiver to Christina and their two children as well as the family’s sole financial provider. Her first few weeks of recovery will require their family to pay for lodging close to the hospital due to need for medical monitoring. Her and her family are looking at thousands of dollars in recovery expenses alone.

I would like to ask for help from the community to provider the Burns family with a sense of financial security as they face this upcoming chapter in their lives. If you are unable to donate, I would like to ask that you please share. Either way, your support is extremely appreciated.

Thank you!
