Christian our brother is a very fit energentic and very active teenage boy who has had a particularly tough year after being paralysed from his legs down.
On Wednesday the 8th of March during a normal school day, Christian was hit in the back with a ball. He immediatley lost feeling from his shoulders down and was taken straight to the hospital.
He slowly gained feeling back but only to his waist he was paralysed from his legs down.
After many test the doctors had found the reason an Arachnoid Cyst pushing against his spinal cord.
They operated to remove the Arachnoid Cyst and aimed to have him up and walking again.
After 10 weeks of pain and rehab Christian was on the road to recovery. Back up and walking and was attending school for 2 hours a day and trying to get back to his original self.
Until unexpectatley 3 weeks later the heartbreaking reality when Christian woke up losing function in his legs and is again paralysed from the wasit down.
After Numerous weeks back in Hospital, MRI scans and different teams of Specialist the doctors are yet to find the reason and have now come to the devastaing conclusion that there is no medical "fix".
With no answers for him, they sent him home to "get use to life in a Wheel Chair."
Months have now passed at home and the pain and frustration for a once fit and young teenage boy continues to get worse and unbearable.
Wanting more answers Christian was sent back to Hospital on the 1st of August.
Where a new MRI showed the results we were looking for.. The Arachnoid Cyst on his spine has returned and this time bigger.
Christian is now back in Hospital and we are praying and are positive that the upcoming Surgery is the key to him walking again so we can have our fit and healthy young brother back.
For those that know our family and Christian you will know how unexpected, heartbreaking and how draining emotionaly and physical this has been. With medical costs, hospital parking, physio & rehab costs, and the time it has cost off work deffinetly all adds up, & now its time to do it all again.
There are a few of you who have been asking how you can help. I would love to take the stress out of the next few months for Mum, Dad and Christian and to be honest every little bit will help. If its to go towards getting dinners for them while in hospital, ( Christian loves the Ribs at the local Pub) the Parking, the Physio, rehab expenses, or allowing them a few days off work to spend in Hospital with Christian, anything would be very greatly appreciated.
& If your thinking of any other ways to help. I know Christian would love Vistiors to come past and sit with him to put a smile on his face and help make the time go as fast as it can.
Thank you in Advance and we will be sure to keep you all posted with updated on how he is going.
