Chris Dalziel's Cancer Battle

Donation protected
I have had the pleasure of knowing Chris Dalziel for a little over seven years. He is one of the kindest human beings I’ve ever met with a true heart of gold. Chris is not only selfless and caring, he also seeks to serve others, with optimism and positivity.

Through his strength and resilience he continues to be a source of inspiration to those around him.

You would never know what Chris has fought based on his sunny disposition and upbeat attitude towards life. However, he continues to fight his greatest battle for his health, wellbeing, against cancer.

In November 2019 Chris was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumours located in the brain, middle ear, neck lymph nodes and salivary glands. The tumours metastasized as a recurring issue from a surgery in 2017.

Largely due to the rarity of location, the tumours were overlooked as a cause for concern. Left unchecked these tumours grew significantly in size and number.

During Covid closures, he was prioritized for an emergency surgery on May 8th 2020 because the tumours were in critical areas of his brain and spreading to his lymph nodes. He required major resection surgery to save his life.

It took five magnificent doctors fourteen hours to remove a large part of his skull, jaw and neck.  This left Chris suffering permanent hearing loss, nerve damage and limited neck mobility. However, thankfully the tumours have been reduced to a manageable amount for systemic therapy.

With the unexpected delays of Covid-19, the window for Radio nucleotide clinical trials for his post op therapy, are closed.

To prevent further tumour cell growth, he has been placed on a chemotherapy drug called Everolimus. Without the proper health insurance, and the drug not being covered under Canada’s heath support, it has an out of pocket cost of $7,000 every month.

The manufacturer has provided 3 months free supply as compassionate care, However; Chris will be faced with the ongoing cost for at least the next full year or until radionuclide therapy options become available in the future.

These last years have been very challenging for Chris - from his fight for a proper diagnosis, his inability to work consistently in his career and personal business to the loss of his father and brother. Despite all of life's challenges he continues to be grateful with a positive attitude and reverence for life.

Even with limited strength throughout his battle, Chris continued to have others on his mind and would organize food drives for local missions, and even built a real replica of a toy Hotwheels car, to encourage awareness, with the help of his local car community.

His dream is not only to beat his cancer, but also to create awareness. He hopes that through his story, others would be inspired to join the fight together.

His heart and generosity know no bounds.

The intention of this GoFundMe, is to help with Chris’ estimated therapy & medication cost of $84,000 - anything above that goal will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society for research and development and corporately matched up to $10,000.

We ask for your help to give this beautiful soul and human being a fighting chance at life. Your generosity will help to fund his therapy and contribute toward helping others experiencing the same challenges in their battles with cancer.

We understand the last few months have been hard for us all -our hope is that even small amounts from lots of people will go far, please donate what you can and share.
