With great sadness the Crew of Express Watersports has learned that one of our own Crew members, Christopher Chong, has passed away.
Chris was a very vibrant member of our team who’s positive energy and fun loving spirit was contagious to everyone he met. It is not often in this world that we cross paths with an extraordinary person such as Chris. He could light up a room with his smile and his enthusiasm for life.
Chris started as a scuba intern from Coastal Carolina University loading and unloading tanks on the boat. It didn’t take Chris long to rise through the ranks and become a PADI Dive Instructor, passing on his passion for the sport to all his students. Chris wanted to know everything he could about the industry which led him to also take on the role of shop technician and dive team leader.
As a diver Chris’ passion for fishing lead him to become a great spear fisherman. Chris would routinely come back from a charter with a fresh fish and a story to go along with it. He would eagerly share with his coworkers and even cook it for everyone to try.
Chris was happiest spending time on the water and became a USCG Licensed Captain shortly after starting to work with us. He loved being a Jet Ski Ranger, Mate, and Kayak Guide teaching customers about the Inlet and all the animals within it.
For this reason we are looking to raise money to purchase and place a steel vessel to one of Chris' favorite dive sites off our shore, in Murrells Inlet, SC. Sinking this vessel will provide a habitat for various fish and sea creatures for divers and fisherman to enjoy for generations to come.
