I’m not usually the one asking for help but the one helping so this is hard for me to do. But as most of you know I will do anything for my dogs.
The chocolate bears: Rocky (11+) and Monkey (10+) are both in their senior years and unfortunately have had some health scares and issues over the past year. We have already put a lot of money into their veterinary care but we have come to a place where it is time to ask for help.
Rocky (Lover Boy) the dog who came to me six years ago afraid of everything. I fostered him for months before deciding Rocky and I were meant to be in each other’s lives forever. In April of last year Rocky had lost the ability to use his back end. After being seen and treated at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists ($3000 +) he was diagnosed with cysts and ruptured discs on his spine. I realized that my wobbly Rocky took a spill down my stairs leading to his injury and losing his ability to walk without help. We currently go to physical therapy at Healing Paws every other week ($70 a visit). I am now hoping to raise enough money to get Rocky a set of wheels ($700) so he has the best quality of life. After a year of myself being his back legs I’ve realized in order for us to be living our best life this is the next step.
Monkey was adopted over ten years ago and is my literal shadow. Recently after being seen for a routine visit we decided to remove some ugly bumps on him. After surgery the masses were sent for testing ($3000+). We got the unfortunate news he had Mast Cell tumors. One was completely removed and the other had unclear margins and could possibly come back.
Which brings us to now. After our recheck a week ago it was found Monkey’s Mast cell tumor on his back leg has returned. Monkey luckily had a recent clear ultrasound ($400 +) and now we are onto Chemotherapy ($600+ a visit). Monkey starts treatment next week and I am hoping to raise enough money to get him through this treatment to give him the most amount of time with us as possible. It is currently unclear how many treatments we will need but we got this. There is still the chance of another surgery ($2500-$3000) to remove the tumor as well but trying other options first.
As someone who has worked and volunteered in animal rescue for over eight years I have seen so many people and their pets struggle with vet bills. I am grateful we have gone this long without needing help. I would like to raise enough money for Monkey’s upcoming Chemotherapy and Rocky’s new set of wheels. Anything over our goal will be used towards my dog’s daily care and/or helping other pets in need.
Thank you for taking the time to hear our story and I appreciate any extra support.
With Love,
