Chloe the Pug: Fighting On!

Donation protected
Chloe the pug came into my life in January of 2010.  She was just the cutest pug puppy you had ever seen! She spent the first 5 years of her life as a healthy and playful pug. Throughout the years, she attended obedience school, went to dog parks and even took cross-country trips to see her grandparents.

Chloe is a lover, but definitely strives for her independence. She has the biggest personality I have ever seen in a dog, and I am not just saying that because I am her mom ;) In January 2015, Chloe wasn’t feeling well and we scheduled an appointment to see her normal vet. The diagnosis - a UTI. We were happy that’s all it was but sad to see her in pain. We kept a close eye on her over the next couple days. After a few days Chloe’s condition worsened. Her spunky attitude was gone, she and no appetite and struggled to keep her head up. We rushed her to the emergency vet for testing and discovered a few things. First, Chloe has a kidney stone encapsulating her right kidney. Second, Chloe was really sick. Her heart rate was dangerously low and her potassium level was dangerously high. She was given meds to counteract each and watched very closely.

Ultimately, Chloe was diagnosed with Addison’s Disease , a rare, chronic endocrine system disorder in which the adrenal glands do not produce sufficient steroid hormones. Dogs (and people) can live a “normal” life with Addison’s, with the help of medication.  (Side note: Being from Chicago, Chloe is a big Cubs fan and as it turns out, her favorite team happens to play at Wrigley Field on ADDISON street!)

Chloe spent 4 days in the hospital. She is now home and is becoming a trooper at taking her medicine! For the rest of her life, Chloe will take daily doses of prednisone and she will receive a shot every 27 days.

In the next few months, her right kidney will also need to be removed since it is degenerating.  Chloe is a fighter but has a long road ahead of her.

Your contribution would greatly help off-set the thousands of dollars in sudden medical bills for emergency room visits, overnight stays, medicine and future expenses for a kidney surgery.

Your donations, thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.
