We are the students of Grandmaster Sifu Jack Shamburger at the Chinese Hawaiian Kenpo Academy in the East Village in New York City. Sifu Jack has been training the men, women and children of downtown NYC and beyond in his system of Chinese Hawaiian Kenpo for over 30 years.
This year we moved into our exciting new home in the East Village, right by St. Mark’s Place. CHKA now occupies two floors in an historic building (formerly home to the Ukrainian Sports Association) just a stone’s throw from Astor Place and the vibrant NYU community. The whole neighborhood can see our windows full of gleaming trophies as they pass!
Since moving into our new building in June, we have been improving our space nonstop. What was once a foreboding brick wall has become an airy storefront entryway just for us! New floor to ceiling glass windows in our large upstairs studio space allow natural light from the West to stream over our workout floors in the afternoons. Our prime location on Second Avenue welcomes passersby into our comfortable reception area, where we have completely refurbished the space to accommodate two floors of classroom space and an area to display our merchandise.
Your donations now will pay for the completion of Phase One of our space renovation including even more improvements: finishing touches on the paint, mats and paneling, and construction of storage and office space. Our vision for Phase Two includes the addition of changing rooms and improved facilities in the coming year.
Donations will be withdrawn daily from the GoFundMe campaign directly to the bank account of a member of the Student Fundraising Team at CHKA.
By contributing now, you will help us to complete Phase One renovations and cover operating expenses as we prepare for our Grand Opening!

We are excited to be able to bring all of our programs to fruition in our new home - 7 days a week of martial arts classes for students ages 3 and up, summer scholarships for all children regardless of economic advantage, and the jewel in our crown, our renowned SMASH Free Women’s Self-Defense program , which we have offered as a service to the community for over 25 years.
