My journey started out with both fear and excitement, not knowing what to expect. The former soon disappeared with the warm welcome I received from both the staff and children at "Priscilla home and school".
Through international volunteer HQ I was given the opportunity to work with abandoned children in a small orphanage. Children eat the same staple food everyday, shower using buckets and have the responsibilities of a Western adult. Fifty kids share one broken skipping rope between them; whilst twenty kids play with the tattered rope the other thirty play with sticks to occupy themselves.
The joy in the kids eyes from receiving a small cup of juice and a lollipop is a moment I will hold dear forever in my heart. The teachers are amazing over here, dedicating their time to the school because of their love for kids.
I've never seen children so content with so little to live on. I am writing this to increase awareness of the plight of these beautiful kids and asking of anyone reading to open your hearts and wallets to these kids by donating, big or small.
The money will be used to increase the standard of living for these beautiful unfortunate children. The school urgently requires notebooks, pencils, chalk and toys. I would love to build them proper toilets so children as young as 3 don't have to squat in a small dark room. I wish just for the basic necessities of life for these kids, nothing more and nothing less.
