Childhood truama and psychosis research

Donation protected

I'm based at University College London where I work as a scientist and a psychiatrist (mental health doctor).  You can see my profile here: https://iris.ucl.ac.uk/iris/browse/profile?upi=MBLOO04

I do research into how bad experiences when we are growing up, called trauma, can make some people more likely to have mental health problems when they are older.  I am really interested in a mental health problem called psychosis.  This is because psychosis can be very frightening and it affects lots of people all over the world.  We think that trauma in childhood is causing about a third of all cases in psychosis.  However, we don't properly understand how this works. This is important because people with psychosis who have had trauma can find it difficult to get better with current treatments.

I am leading a new international programme called the Developmental Trauma and Psychosis Network to bring together scientists and doctors working in this area. We need money to help get the programme up and running. These funds will be used to support the work of this new group including helping fund medical research in this area and helping scientists work together.

Thank you,

Michael
