i4Life child maternal health assessment room

We are: Ciara McCaffrey, Tom White and Matthew Sands, 4th year Queen's University Belfast medical students travelling to Zambia on our medical elective with a non-governmental organisation called i4Life. On Monday 19th June 2023, we are completing the 7-peak challenge - a one-day sponsored hike of the 7 peaks of the Mournes Mountains, N.Ireland to raise money for i4Life. The money raised will be donated to i4Life in support to build a child and maternal health assessment room in their clinic in Lusaka, Zambia. The cost is approximately €5000. This room will facilitate antenatal, intrapartum and post-natal care of women and children in Lusaka, Zambia.
i4Life is a child health specialist charity established in 2009 with a specific interest in low resource countries. They have a particular focus on education, immunisation, nutrition & Human Rights in Zambia. The primary care unit where we will be based treats 300 people per day and is based in a shanty town outside Lusaka. For every 100 children under the age of 5 treated, 75% of them need urgent care as they risk long term illness or worst case, death. Everyone who attends the clinic receives hot meals and nutrition education. i4Life run intensive feeding programmes for the most malnourished children and monitor their progress.
We thank you for your contribution.
