Childcare Crisis: Make a Difference

Donation protected
We can't tell you how often parents reach out to us seeking assistance with finding care for their children.  They are often in desperate need of quality childcare and may have been looking since they were pregnant.

If you are having this experience you may be feeling desperate, fearful, and have a sense of hopelessness.

You may have mixed feelings about returning to work and the limited childcare options increase the stress and frustrations.

If you haven't been in this position just imagine, for a moment, searching for childcare for 18 plus months with no luck and starting to worry that you may not be able to return to work.

What if not going back to work is not an option?

What do you do?

Are you an employer who has felt the impact of the childcare crisis?  You need focused and reliable employees  who come to work knowing their children are safe and cared for.

How can you help?

All donations, large or small, have an impact!

We understand that $500K is a lot of money however we need to tackle this crisis 1 childcare space at a time. Our commitment to the community is to provide updates on our progress with fundraising and the development of the centre.

Thank you for considering a gift to help Saanich Neighbourhood Place develop a new childcare centre.

We know both anecdotally and through local research that there is a critical need for additional childcare spaces in Greater Victoria. Saanich Neighbourhood Place (SNP) Board of Directors identified increasing the number of childcare spaces in our community as an organizational strategic priority. Based on our regional goal of one space for every 1.4 children we should have 14,285 spaces. Currently we have 5,459 regulated spaces.

SNP has been supporting families for over 20 years. We deliver a wide range of programs to support families to grow healthy children. Full o'Beans Preschool, with a mission to provide high quality, accessible early learning and care experiences in a safe, nurturing environment, this part time childcare option has been operational since September 2013.

The total cost of the project is $1.9 million. To date, we have secured $1.4 million. In order to complete the project, SNP needs to raise $500,000. The proposed building site is in the rear of Pearkes Recreation Centre. The adjacent existing green space is proposed as a natural outdoor play space for both the childcare and the children in our neighbourhood.

Please visit our funding website at www.snpcommunityfund.ca for more information about this project.

The proposed design is a one story modular building, with architectural details that will help it blend into its setting in an aesthetically pleasing way.

The new childcare space will have direct access to The Little Woods Natural Playground - a unique outdoor play space that will encourage exploration and engagement with our natural environment.
