Chet’s fight with neurofibromatosis and scoliosis
Doação protegida
My name is Danard Higgs and I am fundraising for my cousin Alexis Johnson and her son Chet Hanna.
Chet was born with neurofibromatosis. As a result of the tumor’s development, Chet has now developed severe scoliosis. The tumor and scoliosis are preventing him from standing for more than a few minutes or even sitting for more than 10 minutes. He must lie on his side to be comfortable.
Chet is a bubbly, excited 14-year-old youth. He loves basketball and can quickly repeat statistics on NBA and college basketball players. He also loves following traveling bloggers who sample food around the world. Chet misses school immensely, which he has not been able to attend for the past two years. As a result, Alexis is unable to work to take care of him.
Chet has seen several doctors and surgery is necessary for him to lead a normal and productive life. Chet will require surgery to remove the tumor from his spine and a few operations to correct the scoliosis issue. He is presently in Columbia, where the doctors are prepared to treat him. Doctors have also said that post-surgery, Chet’s physiotherapy and full recovery will take about a year.
This is just the beginning of Chet’s journey for a normal life and to achieve his dream of playing basketball. I would be extremely grateful for any donation to help Chet in his fight. To date family has assisted financially, however, additional funding is needed due to the enormous cost of the surgery. The cost of surgery and rehabilitation is projected to be $150,000.
On behalf of Alexis, Chet, and the remaining family members, we thank you in advance for your generosity, compassion, and prayers.
