Chester's 911 Emergency
Donation protected
As many of you already know, my rescue Golden Retriever, Chester had to have emergency surgery to remove his spleen this past week. It was a near-death experience.
Since rescuing Chester, I have been very diligent about his care and took him to the vet straightaway when I noticed something was wrong. The vet I took him to treated him for what she deemed an allergic reaction, but suggested I get an ultrasound of his spleen because his blood work was showing him to be anemic and she couldn't clearly interpret the two x-rays taken. I was shocked to learn this and scheduled an ultrasound for the next day. This vet didn’t indicate the ultrasound was urgent; so I went to work leaving Chester to recover. When I returned home that evening, Chester was in a dire condition. I rushed him to an emergency vet who informed me that Chester was bleeding internally and required immediate surgery or else he would expire. It was a heart-wrenching, traumatic experience. Of course, I made the decision for Chester to undergo emergency surgery and save his life.
Chester came to me 1 year ago from Maine after he was surrendered by the only family he ever knew for 6 years. His first family gave Chester a very stressful life to include tick infestation and abuse with a shock collar.
Since Chester’s arrival in Florida, I have tried my best to give him a life of love and care that he so rightly deserves. From the little kids asking, “Can I pet your dog?” to the instant smiles he brings to people as we walk on Park Avenue, a day met by Chester’s Golden majesty always makes days brighter.
I’m a single person in the workforce with modest means and lifestyle. The emergency care required to save beautiful Chester’s life was in excess of $4,000. If you can find it in your hearts to donate to Chester’s cause, your kindness would be warmly appreciated. Every little bit would help us.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all.
