Cheryl's Global Soul Fundraiser

Hi, I'm Brian Lazarus, a good friend of Cheryl Smith, as well as a sometimes employee at the restaurant, and I have been playing music there every Thursday night for about 4 years.

For 15 years Cheryl's Global Soul has been serving soulful international dishes and flavors in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY.  
As you know, restaurants have been some of the hardest hit by the pandemic, and this is doubly true for small, independently owned establishments.
This GoFundMe is to ensure that this beloved neighborhood institution stays open through these extraordinary challenges.

When the pandemic hit, Cheryl was driving around delivering food, with no considerations for a day off while many of us were hunkered down in our homes.  She had to recreate the menu and shift from sit-down dining to almost exclusively takeout.  A dining room usually filled with neighborhood regulars, tourists, and laughter now sits empty because of the COVID restrictions on indoor dining.



In normal times, Cheryl's Global Soul gets much of its business from foot traffic from the nearby Brooklyn Museum, Botanic Garden, and Brooklyn Main Library, all of which have been closed for the duration of the pandemic.

Even with the struggles of staying open, Cheryl's has partnered with locals, neighbors, and Fuel The People to provide and deliver food to frontline workers, and even to voters in line during the election in November.

Cheryl is a tireless worker and has spent the last 10 months chasing down whatever relief has been available, while continuing to operate her business.  You can even find her in the kitchen making the magic happen!

Cheryl understands that many people and businesses are struggling right now.  If you are able to help keep this neighborhood gem alive it is so very deeply appreciated.

Half of the funds will be used for owed back rent, the other half will be used to create a canopy structure for the front and back outdoor spaces and allow Cheryl's to hire new staff.  All of the funds will go directly from gofundme to the restaurant.
