Our dinosaur, Chelsea Marie Baranowski Milanese, has passed at the age of 31 from stomach cancer. We are relieved that all of the suffering she endured has ended, but now we need help to honor her and take care of her husband.
Chelsea grew up in Willow Grove, PA and attended school at Upper Moreland School District. In high school she moved to Long Island, NY and graduated from Ward Melville High School.
Chelsea met her husband in August 2007 during their freshman year at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). A year later they started dating. In August 2018, Joey proposed at their favorite TCNJ pond during a walk with Chelsea’s dog Gremlin. They were married in September 2019 and soon after Chelsea started an accelerated nursing program at Rutgers University. She had a 4.0 GPA and was due to graduate in May 2021.
Unfortunately, in December 2020, Chelsea was diagnosed with a rare stomach cancer at the age of 31. The path that Chelsea and Joey had planned on taking through life now took a turn. Chelsea went from studying hard everyday to days full of hospital visits, Tele-health appointments, and wondering where this journey would take her.
Chelsea fought her hardest to stay with us. Shortly after her diagnosis, Chelsea and Joey preserved embryos for their future family. They were hoping that they found the cancer early enough for Chelsea to beat it. Over the past 6 months she had aggressive chemo treatments and 18 days of radiation therapy. All through this, Chelsea never complained about having cancer. Her only complaints were “why did it have to be stomach cancer” or “why do I have to be nauseous all the time?”
Originally, we had planned to start a GoFundMe to help Chelsea fight against this disease, but her health deteriorated and she started hospice before we were ready to launch it. Now, this GoFundMe is for the funeral expenses and medical bills. Since Chelsea was still in school and just starting her career she did not have life insurance. Cancer is expensive and not everything was covered by insurance. One expense that Joey and Chelsea had to pay for out-of-pocket was her formula for the feeding tube she had for six months.
