Chason's Surgeries, Recovery & Therapy

Donation protected
Chason had a serious accident when he was 3 years old, shattering his skull and finding a window-well embedded 4 inches into his brain in the process. Luckily the good Lord was watching over him and provided an ambulance which was literally a block away when they got the call. Within 30 minutes of the accident he was on a helicopter flying to Primary Children’s Hospital where they proceeded to perform emergency surgery.

Part of Chason’s brain died and had to be removed. Half of his skull was crushed, including one of his eye sockets. After the 7-hour surgery, we were told our son would most likely be in a coma for several months, and when he wakes up he’ll be starting life all over. We would need to reteach him to talk and walk. He would struggle with school and be uncontrollably aggressive.

However, after thousands of prayers across the world within hours of his accident, and several blessings, he woke up the next morning and said hi to his mom. They took him home 9 days later. No signs of brain defects. No aggression. He is the most lovable, hugable child we know. He's simply a miracle and we owe our thanks to the Lord.

They were very glad to have him home and doing well but the next few years were rough. There were times he didn’t have anything other than a layer of skin protecting his brain. Helmets were used whenever we left the home. Therapy was used to help with his mild trauma-induced cerebral palsy. He has hydrocephalus and a shunt that goes from the top of his head to his abdomen. He has more scars on his body than anyone I’ve ever met (he's kind of proud of that one :).

After 12 surgeries, and going through multiple skull implants until one finally worked, he was given the green light to continue life until his skull stopped growing. He is now 12 years old and all he wants is to have this surgery. They are ready to do his next big surgery this coming week. This surgery needed a preparatory surgery a month ago where they inserted a balloon between his skull and his skin to stretch and grow more skin. They wanted plenty to work with. Twice a week his mom pokes a large needle into his skin just behind the ears and inserts more fluid into the balloon, stretching it even further. It’s the coolest dang thing you’ve ever seen! By next week it should be plenty of skin for the surgeons to work with.

We are so blessed and thankful to our Father in Heaven for the many miracles and blessings he has shown this family over the years. We couldn’t imagine life without Chason in it. He’s very special. However, even with all of these blessings they have been struggling financially for a decade. Their medical bills are high. Therapy is expensive. With this latest surgery coming up, they are finding themselves in need of help. They've tried to do this on their own but have recently realized that it’s impossible and it’s ok to reach out and ask for assistance.

Please consider donating. Chason still has a long road ahead of him and these donations will help pay for his past, present and future medical bills and other expenses. Thank you so much!
