Charlotte's Summer Educational Trip

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Charlotte Reing, and I’m a Jewish teen living outside of Washington D.C. This summer I have the opportunity to participate in Etgar 36, a cross-country trip for Jewish teens. Etgar 36 provides immersive experience for Jewish teens from all over the country. As it’s mission states, “the goal of the Journey is to empower (us) to get involved politically and socially to create change in the world. We will learn about the “American history that shapes us, our Jewish heritage that binds us, the issues that confront us and how the political process impacts us.”

As you might imagine, this 36 day journey comes with a hefty price that would be a strain on our family’s finances. I’d like to do my part in helping to alleviate the expense with this fundraising effort. I hope you will take a minute to read more about why I want to participate in this trip and consider making a donation to help me.

Now more than ever, I think it is so important for teens like me to grow and learn and stretch my knowledge so that I am well-equipped to become part of the next generation of Jewish leaders. Judaism plays a very large role in my life. My late Zayde, Rabbi Leonard Lifshen, was a great influence on me and my beliefs. He was someone I looked up to from a very early age. Zayde was very wise, and very tolerant of people and their beliefs. He would tell me stories from the Torah in a way that made them sound so interesting to a young kid. Zayde would always let me come up to the bima and sit with him, putting the prayer book between us while he would chant as the little me did my best to mumble a few words. When I studied for my Bat Mitzvah, he was always eager to practice with me. I would say that he greatly impacted the way I think, and the way I see things.

Just as my Zayde practiced tolerance, the Etgar journey is designed so that every day we meet with people and organizations to discuss and debate all sides of important issues including gun control, immigration, the environment, LGBTQ issues, homelessness, foreign policy, abortion, the environment and more. I believe that Etgar will be an amazing opportunity for me to meet other Jewish teens from all over the country and also a great experience for me to understand other people’s beliefs and be more mindful of what others think.

In exchange for helping to send me on this trip, you will receive some amazing perks! You’ll have exclusive access to my Etgar Journey blog, in which I will document the things I've done in each city, writing about whom I've met and highlights of the conversations we’re having. You will have the chance to see this trip through my eyes and get an eyewitness account of every experience we have across the country. Additionally, at the end of the summer, you’ll be invited to a presentation about what I've learned on the trip followed by a Q&A discussion.

I hope that you will consider contributing to help send me on this once in a lifetime opportunity. Any amount that you can give to help me reach my goal is appreciated very much! Thank you so much for your generosity!
