I was always told I could not have children. When I became pregnant I believe he was a gift from God. My miracle baby, Charleson was born October 26, 2004. He is a mild manner 13-year-old. He likes Taekwondo, soccer and track. His hobbies include crocheting, drawing and reading mythical books. He loves all the superhero movies. Spiderman is his favor.
In December 2017, Charleson started complaining his glasses were not working. His vision was doubling. Over the Christmas Holiday, my brother noticed his was walking awkwardly. Cedar and pollen counts were very high. So, I decided to take him to the doctor to get a prescription for allergy medicine.
The doctor examines revealed it was not an allergy problem, but a balance issue. She ordered an MRI at Dell Children’s Hospital.
The result of the MRI was a brain tumor located in the brain stem. All tumors in the brain are considered cancer. This is a rare brain tumor that only affects children. Mostly between the age of 2 and 10. My son is 13.
The diagnosis left me in shock. I sat there staring in disbelieve thinking how could this be happening. My mind was racing. Why didn’t I see the symptoms sooner? Why my child! He is passed the age of getting this type of cancer. Later to find out there are no systems until the tumor presses against a nerve. There is no reason. It is what it is.
Doctors all over the country are working on finding a cure. We traveled to Atlanta, GA. for a trial. Unfortunately, Charleson was not able to be part of the trial. As you know medical treatments are expensive. We need your support to ensure Charleson gets the best medical treatment available.
He will need around the clock care and special medical care. Any help would be appreciated.
