On December 28, 2017, Chuck and Wendy were taking care of their childrens' dogs, Hazel and Cooper, while they were in NJ. Around 2:45 a.m., Hazel began nudging Wendy to get up and Wendy ignored her at first. Hazel would not stop, so Wendy got up to let them outside to go to the bathroom. When she opened the bedroom door, she noticed that 1/2 of their house was already on fire. She began screaming for Chuck to wake up and get out. They were able to get out with their pajamas and the two dogs. In carrying the dogs out of the house, Wendy broke her right foot. Other than that, they suffered no physical injuries.

They moved their cars across the street and sat in the cars in below freezing temperatures and watched while it took less than 9 minutes for the fire to completely consume the other half of their home. Firefighters and emergency personnel arrived a few minutes later. It took more than 50 firefighters half an hour to put out the fire.

Around 7 a.m., they were able to go into what was left of the home in an attempt to retrieve baby pictures, memories, and clothing. The only part of the home that survived the fire was the master closet, where thankfully, Wendy had stored a cedar chest with baby pictures. They were able to get some clothing as well.

They have lost everything and will be starting the difficult process of re-building the home that they shared for 20+ years, and in which, they raised both of their children.

While we figure out where they will live while they re-build, they are staying with their adult children, and beginning to gather everything they need for a new home.

Every donation will be given directly to Chuck and Wendy for living necessities, furniture, household goods, etc.

Anyone who knows Chuck and Wendy know that they would do anything to help someone in need and even in this time of need, Wendy says that she feels terrible for imposing on friends and family.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
