Charity Skydive for victims of Head injury

Tax deductible
In the early hours of 21st January 2005 my beautiful older sister Hayley aged 19, a first year fine art student was the victim of a hit and run on Oxford Road Manchester. Hayley  was hit by a car that was reaching speed of 60-65mph. The driver and passenger of the vehicle fled the scene leaving my sister for dead, forced underneath a parked car on the opposite side of the road. Hayley suffered extensive injuries; multiple broken bones throughout her entire body, a shattered pelvis, a brain injury, a life of pain and constant care ahead. Hayley’s life and our lives from that moment were changed forever.

Hayley was rushed to hospital and was comatosed due to the amount of swelling on the brain from the impact she was hit with and the amount of injuries to her body, at that point we were made aware that she would not make it. However, Hayley is one hell of a fighter and kept fighting to stay alive for 3 months in the coma she could not wake up from. The day she started to open her big blue eyes and flutter her long beautiful eyelashes I will never forget. Just seeing her open her eyes gave us the hope we all so desperately needed. The next two years were spent in hospitals and rehabilitation centres; teaching her to eat, talk, restore at least some memories and starting a new life as the ‘new’ Hayley. Something that as taken me along time to accept.

The Charity Headway helped to introduce some level of normality back into Hayley’s life, She was able to meet others who had their lives shattered by a tragic accident. Hayley had a lot of support over the years from the charity and so I would like to give something back in hopes it will improve people’s quality of life that have had their lives turned upside down too. I would also like to help relieve family members of some worries involving their loved ones daily happiness; Even if it is only the organisation of a taxi to collect and drop off so people can go for coffee and cake to break up their lonely day, it makes all the difference.

The injuries Hayley sustained has changed hers and my family’s lives forever. She was just like me or you and at the flick of a switch, just like many others; everything was taken away from her. She will never be able to work or do a lot of the normal things we all take for granted. Now, her health and mind is deteriorating rapidly, due to the trauma she has endured she will age much faster than someone without these disabilities. She will never be able to make the dreams her 19 year old self had, happen but I can honestly say she gives it all she’s got and some! Please help me raise awareness of the importance of charities like Headway, that are there to support us when we least expect the worst to happen. It really could be any of us, just like that! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, if you would like to donate please click the link below. I’m very much looking forward to throwing myself out of a plane at 10,000 feet...

The only inspiration I’ll ever need. Hayley Charlotte Tonge xx
