Aloha dear donor,
My name is Florian, but you can call me Flo. I am a 27-year-old French wannabe triathlete. I grew up in the North of France near Lille and now live in Lyon, near the Alps. Besides my day-to-day job, I challenge myself with sports-related “crazy dream ideas” and try my best to make them come true.
In 2021 the “crazy dream idea” was to bikepack the Tour de France and the transitions between each race stages. I started one day ahead of the pro-peloton and had to finish in the same amount of time as them (23 days) while being self-supported. You may have heard of Lachlan Morton, a pro-cyclist within the Education First Easy Post team, who did the same thing through "The Alt Tour" project. The unofficial word is that he copied the idea from my bikepacker friend Max Schnell, with whom I completed this adventure.
In 2022 the “crazy dream idea” was to finish my first long-distance triathlon while secretly hoping to qualify for the iconic Ironman World Championships in Kona , Hawaii. The truth is, I have been aspiring to achieve this dream since 2017. I saved up money and bought my first bike for my birthday in November 2018. In July 2019, I registered for the Ironman Nice 2020 race. Sadly, COVID hit us all. The 2020 race was canceled, and I had to defer the 2021 race. After relocating from Paris to Lyon and changing jobs in early February this year, I started to train properly in March, hoping 2022 would be the year. And it has been going beyond expectations so far! I was fortunate enough to qualify for Kona after completing Ironman Nice late June and, the cherry on the cake, unexpectedly qualified for the Half Ironman World Championship in St. George (Utah) after my first Half Ironman in Aix en Provence a month before.
The races will occur on the 6th of October in Kona and the 29th of October in St. George. That is when things got trickier: I did not anticipate the magnitude of the financial cost of such a “crazy dream idea”. I still intend to participate in both races and give it my best. Your financial support can help me finance my 2022 “crazy dream idea”. But not only…
Besides my day-to-day job and sports-related endeavors, I have been active in various charities. After relocating to Lyon this year, I volunteered for a new charity: Telemaque. Telemaque is a charity that supports children growing up in low-income neighborhoods from middle school until their high school graduation. If you are not familiar with the French education system, this means for 5 years. The children are supported by a dual-mentorship program. A schoolteacher who supports them from an educational perspective, and a professional mentor who supports them to discover the world beyond their neighborhood. The aim is to guide them to build up their own future beyond high school graduation. Each child and their mentor are trusted with a 350€ annual grant in middle school, which turns into a 700€ annual grant in high school. This grant helps the children discover new horizons and prepare for their personal journey beyond high school graduation. Besides this annual grant, the children are helped by Telemaque on a daily basis by providing them with extracurricular activities and offering them support beyond what their families can provide.
Your donation will therefore both support my triathlon endeavors and the Telemaque charity. For the total donations we collect:
- Up to 10K€, 20% will be retributed to Telemaque (funding the equivalent of 3 high school annual grants if we reach 10K€)
- Beyond 10K€, 35% will be retributed to Telemaque (funding the equivalent of 1 high school annual grant for every extra 2K€ raised)

Je m’appelle Florian, mais vous pouvez m’appeler Flo. Je suis un apprenti triathlète français de 27 ans. J’ai grandi dans le Nord près de Lille et je vis actuellement à côté de Lyon. En dehors de mon travail, j’aime à penser des défis sportifs fous que je m’attache ensuite à réaliser du mieux que je peux.
En 2021, le “défi sportif fou” annuel fut de réaliser le Tour de France et les transitions entre les étapes en bikepacking et en autonomie totale. J’ai démarré la veille du départ du peloton pro avec pour but de finir dans la même fenêtre de temps qu’eux (23 jours). Vous avez peut-être entendu parler de Lachlan Morton, un cycliste pro de l’équipe Education First Easy Post, qui a fait la même chose sous le nom "The Alt Tour". La légende voudrait qu’il ait piqué l’idée à mon ami bikepacker Max Schnell, avec qui j’ai mené à bien cette aventure.
En 2022, le “défi sportif fou” annuel était de finir mon premier triathlon longue distance, en espérant secrètement réussir à me qualifier pour le légendaire championnat du monde Ironman à Kona, Hawaii. En vérité, je porte ce rêve depuis 2017. J’ai commencé par économiser afin de m’acheter mon premier vélo pour mon anniversaire en novembre 2018. Puis, en juillet 2019, j’ai pris mon dossard pour l’Ironman Nice 2020. Malheureusement le COVID a frappé, la course fut annulée en 2020, et je n’ai pu y participer en 2021. Après avoir déménagé de Paris pour m’installer à Lyon et commencer un nouveau boulot début février 2022, je me suis mis à m'entraîner sérieusement en mars. J’espérais que cette année soit la bonne. Et jusqu’ici cela a été le cas, bien au-delà de mes espérances ! J’ai la chance de m’être qualifié pour les championnats du monde à Kona (Hawaii) à la suite de ma participation à l’Ironman de Nice fin juin, ainsi qu’aux championnats du monde sur la mi-distance à St George (Utah) après mon premier Half Ironman à Aix en Provence en mai dernier.
Les courses ont lieu respectivement le 6 octobre à Kona et le 29 octobre à St George. Et c’est là que les choses se compliquent. Je n’avais pas anticipé l’importance de l’effort financier requis pour mener à bien cette folle aventure. J’ai bien l’intention de participer à ces deux courses et d’y donner le meilleur de moi-même. C’est pour cette raison que je sollicite aujourd’hui votre soutien financier.
Mais pas seulement…
En dehors de mon activité professionnelle et de mes folies sportives annuelles, j’ai toujours été actif dans des associations. En arrivant à Lyon, j’ai commencé à m’engager dans une association soutenue par mon employeur (Groupe SEB) depuis plusieurs années : Télémaque. Télémaque soutient des jeunes de territoires fragiles de la classe de 5ème à la Terminale. Les élèves sont accompagnés par 2 mentors : un professeur de son établissement scolaire qui garantit l'accompagnement éducatif et une personne du monde de l’entreprise qui accompagne l’élève en dehors du milieu scolaire. Cet accompagnement a pour but d’aider l’élève à découvrir le monde au-delà des frontières de son quartier pour l’aider à mûrir son projet de vie après l’obtention du baccalauréat. Chaque élève et son mentor se voient confier une bourse de 350€/an au collège et de 700€/an au lycée afin de financer des activités lui permettant de mûrir la réflexion sur son avenir et de faire éclore ses projets. Au-delà de cette bourse annuelle, les dons permettent d’accompagner les jeunes au quotidien à travers des activités proposées par l’association.
Votre don permettra donc à la fois de me soutenir dans ma quête de participation aux championnats du monde Ironman tout en participant au financement de l’association Télémaque. Le total des dons récoltés seront répartis comme suit :
- Jusqu’à 10,000€, 20% des dons perçus seront redistribués à Télémaque (ce qui équivaut au financement de 3 bourses annuelles en année lycée si ce palier est atteint)
- Au-delà de ce palier, 35% des dons perçus seront redistribués à Télémaque (ce qui équivaut au financement d’une bourse annuelle en année lycée supplémentaire à chaque fois que 2,000€ seront collectés)
