On the 19th of January, Karen Marshall, my best friend and the love of my life, had a heart attack. I rushed her to the ER and she was quickly admitted. The next day, she found out that she would need a quadruple bypass. While waiting in the Cardiac ICU for the blood thinners to flush out of her system, she had a very painful ovarian cyst rupture. This caused her to have to undergo emergency abdominal surgery just 2 days before having her open heart surgery. While recovering in the ICU after this insanely traumatic and life altering situation, she then had a stroke. Needless to say, this last month has been a very trying time in every way imaginable.
If you've ever known, befriended, worked with or interacted at all with Karen then you know that she's the MOST giving and generous human being any of us are ever likely to meet and routinely goes out of her way to meet everybody's needs and make them feel special. If you've talked to her for any length of time, you're sure to have heard the story of the coffee bean, the carrot and the egg (she didn't invent the story but she's famous for telling it). She even started a campaign called Attitudes of Gratitudes, where she'd hand out a card and some chocolates to people she'd encounter out in the world just to thank and encourage them. She's going to need lots of TLC to recover from this. Since she can't work right now, the medical care and therapy she needs has put a tremendous financial and emotional burden on us and I want to encourage everyone (especially those whose lives she's impacted) to donate or help in any way you can.
Additionally, trying to follow in her footsteps and do some good in the world, I created an online store. All purchases through the store automatically donate 10% of all sales to EVAWI (End Violence Against Women International).
