Help Immigrant Youth In Crisis Today

*The Jamestown Community Center is the financial host for this campaign and will be dispersing all funds directly to Cesar Chavez Elementary School families. *
Many residents of San Francisco know Cesar Chavez Elementary School for our beautiful murals depicting our namesake, activist Cesar Chavez, along with other multicultural themes representing our entire community, such as the American Sign Language alphabet mural on the Shotwell Street side of our building to represent our Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and families. Our school is integral to our Latinx Cultural District community.
We have become the center of food distribution, COVID-19 testing and community outreach during this crisis. Many families from the Chavez Elementary community have also gone out of their way to volunteer in these efforts. We serve 478 families from all over the Bay Area, many of whom reside in the Mission District neighborhood.
Due to the Shelter-In-Place order across our city and state, the families of Cesar Chavez Elementary have been through severe economic strain. Not only that, but 90% of individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 are those who need to leave their home to work. 95% of these individuals identify as being of Latinx heritage.
The Jamestown Community Center, a Mission District nonprofit and school program partner, is hosting this fundraiser for the Chavez families in need of financial support at this time. The money we fundraise will go directly to those who have been impacted and have the highest need, primarily undocumented, unemployed, or homeless families. In particular this fund will support our undocumented families who do not have access to unemployment benefits and will not receive a stimulus check to help them through this pandemic.
More than anything, this fund will support our undocumented families who do not have access to unemployment or the stimulus check to help them overcome this pandemic. Families will be supported through $ 500 Visa gift cards that can be used for essential purchases like groceries and toiletries.
The Mission District is the heart of San Francisco. It’s where we gather for big wins, nights out, great food, and cultural events like Dia de los Muertos and Carnaval. The Mission is beautiful and vibrant because of the richness of art and culture that come from the unique Latinx heritage and cultures of its residents.
The families of Cesar Chavez play a big part in making this neighborhood run and contribute to its vitality. The Mission District gives us so much. We need to show our support, love and appreciation for the families that make The Mission like no other place in San Francisco.

Muchos residentes de nuestra ciudad conocen a la Escuela Primaria César Chávez por los hermosos murales que representan al activista César Chávez, junto con otros temas multiculturales representativos de toda la comunidad, como el mural del alfabeto para sordos en el lado de la calle Shotwell que representa a los estudiantes sordos y con dificultades auditivas. Chávez es una comunidad clave dentro del distrito cultural latinx.
La Escuela Chavez se ha convertido en el centro de distribución de alimentos, pruebas del COVID-19 y enlaces de servicios comunitarios durante esta crisis. Muchas familias de la comunidad escolar han apoyado como voluntarios en estos servicios, alcanzando a 478 familias de todo el Área de la Bahía, muchas de las cuales residen en el vecindario del Distrito de la Misión.
Debido a la orden de cuarentena, las familias de la Escuela Chávez están pasado por una crisis económica. No solo eso, pero el 90% de las personas diagnosticadas con COVID-19 son aquellas que necesitan salir de sus hogares para trabajar. El 95% de estos son de herencia latina.
El Centro Comunitario Jamestown está organizando esta recaudación de fondos para las familias de la Escuela Chávez que están necesitando apoyo financiero en estos momentos tan difíciles. Los fondos se destinarán directamente a las familias más afectadas, principalmente las indocumentadas, desempleadas o sin hogar.
Más que nada, este fondo apoyará a nuestras familias indocumentadas que no tienen acceso a desempleo o el cheque de estímulo para ayudarlos a superar esta pandemia. Las familias recibirán el apoyo a través de tarjetas de regalo de Visa de $500 que se pueden usar para compras esenciales como comestibles y artículos de tocador.

Es donde nos reunimos para celebrar victorias, salir de noche, disfrutar buena comida y apreciar eventos culturales como el Día de los Muertos y el Carnaval. La Misión es hermosa y llena de riqueza artística y cultural provenientes de sus residentes.
