Hello everyone,
My name is Katherine and I serve as a college advisor at Lynwood High School. As an advisor, I help a caseload of about 400 seniors apply to colleges & financial aid. Many of my seniors come from low-income households but will also be the first in their family to attend college. Every year, my school puts on an event called College Decision/Signing Day to celebrate their accomplishments and college decisions. College Decision Day is officially on May 1st.
However, due to COVID-19, not only is school closed, but my seniors were not able to enjoy their last year. Not only are they missing out on senior activities but also College Decision Day, prom, and graduation, which are all important life markers in my students' lives.
Although I am sad that I can't celebrate with them in-person, I still want to give them my best and throw them a virtual College Decision Day through recognizing students' decisions on social media.
In addition, I need YOUR HELP with funds for items to give away. In order to prioritize the health and safety of our community and to limit any person-to-person contact, we will be giving away Amazon e-gift cards for students to purchase any supplies or necessities they need to prepare for school.
Each donation will go towards Amazon e-gift cards to help students purchase any supplies, books, or personal expenses. As for now, my goal is $500 I also may increase this goal depending on how fast I can fundraise :)
