CF Rocket Club-NASA Student Launch

Donation protected
After finishing 5th Place in the National Finals of the world's largest rocket contest last spring, the Cedar Falls High School Rocket Club is working with NASA on its next project.  The team proposed a design for an 8-ft. tall rocket with a scientific payload of solar panels on-board to collect solar energy data during its flight to 1-mile above ground level.  While the rocket is in flight, there will be a ground station that houses a full-scale model of the rocket including the solar panel data collection.  The ground station will receive gyroscope orientation data through radio communication during flight from the live rocket so that the ground station rocket will mimic the orientation of the live rocket throughout the launch.  This allows the team to collect data from the ground and the air simultaneously with each rocket maintaining the same orientation so they collect the solar data similarly. Please visit the team's website for more info and design reports:

The team’s proposal was accepted in October, and since then the team has been working tirelessly to make their dream a reality.  Every two months the team is required to present their progress to a team of NASA engineers in a 30-minute video conference, who then critique their design and give feedback/permission for the team to continue the project.

They are in the final construction and testing phase right now, and they need your help.  The Materials & Travel Budget for the entire project is a staggering $12,000, but as my grandpa always used to say, "How do you eat an elephant? One bit at a time."  The students have already found support in the Iowa Space Grant Consortium, local fundraisers, and a few local companies.  One company has even offered a dollar-for-dollar matching donation up to $3000 from other donors.  The team has currently already raised $500 in matching donations, but we need more generous donors to make this project a reality.  If you would prefer to write a check rather than a GoFundMe donatio, checks can be made to Cedar Falls High School with “Rocket Club” in the memo.

These students have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in front of them, and a chance to prove to the whole world that their hard work and enthusiasm has not gone unnoticed.  Please consider helping these students achieve their dreams of flying a rocket with NASA!  We cannot thank you enough if you were to help give these students this opportunity!
