The House Hope Built | Puerto Rico

Tax deductible
The stories of domestic violence and sexual assault are heartbreaking. They are crude, ugly, and demonstrate the worst of humanity. In Puerto Rico, the number of women killed by their partners in 2011 was six times higher than Los Angeles, which has about the same population of 3.7 million. Since Hurricane Maria hit the island, this number has quadrupled! The lack of access to food and electricity has exacerbated stress in many families, and contributed to a number of “murder-suicides” related to domestic conflicts...

WE ARE HERE TO PUT AN END TO THIS!

The House Hope Built was inspired by Esperanza Suarez who dedicated her life to helping families in Puerto Rico. Although she is no longer with us, her story and legacy continues to inspire us daily. Her last request was to turn her home into a safe haven for women and children who were exposed to domestic violence in Puerto Rico. We are excited to make that possibility a reality... In her memory, and for the lives of many others!

With the help of Casa de Esperanza para Mujeres y Ninos, Inc (CEPMN) and donors like YOU we aim to use this donated home, in Bayamon Puerto Rico as our base of operations. Serving as an outreach center to benefit women and their children residing in domestic violence shelters in San Juan. As one of CEPMN's initiatives for domestic violence awareness and support, we will provide advocacy, education, children services, job skill training and more in Puerto Rico and New York.

This will operate a day program that includes a six (6) week training program:
Phase I: Intake and orientation
Phase 2: Education sessions and counseling both private and in group settings.
Phase 3: Home Health Attendant training and certification.
Phase 4- "Boot Camp", a day of empowerment operated by Milagros Day Worldwide.
Phase 5- Graduation Ceremony, Job placement and linkage to supportive housing if requested.

* education classes include ESL, financial planning, budgeting, parenting, meal planning and nutrition.

All donations received will be used towards restoration and renovation of the donated home, purchasing supplies for the program and clients to alleviate the burden of expenses for uniforms and learning material. We also will prepare families for independent living, assist in locating permanent housing and offer numerous on-and-off site support services that empower survivors and address the root causes of domestic abuse. We will also create a Emergency Hotline for those in need. Finally, we will provide our survivors with a greater sense of wellbeing as they transition their dreams of safety and independence into reality.

Casa Esperanza para Mujeres y Nino's is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which directly manages the project in Puerto Rico.
