Cepek Broken Back to Walking Again

Donation protected
Gary Cepek, my father, 66 years old, is in critical condition after being hit by a truck when cycling home on a country road.

His back bone was severed in two places and has had many surgeries on his multiple injuries. His ribs were broken completely, resulting in crushing his lungs, which are now the most critical part in healing, being able to breathe unsupported.

Due to so many injuries and necessary surgeries, he has received as many blood transfusions as possible, but his body also starts to reject this foreign body, resulting in critically low blood pressure despite the highest dosis of BP medicine.

During one of his surgeries, he had a metal rod inserted down the complete spine along with 17 screws, two plates in his elbow and 14 screws, he has 3 fractures in his pelvis, a crushed ankle, fractured femur, fractured ulna, fractured fibula, as well as many other injuries.

He currently is on oxygen, tubes inserted into his lungs, and just fighting to breathe. As his lungs fill with fluid, they suction the liquid as quickly as possible.

Aside from this accident, he has Lyme´s Disease, which caused him to retire from the Ministry (Lutheran) and has been working to handle this crippling disease for many years.

Any person who has known Gary would describe him as possibly the most simple, forgiving, loving, God fearing person that you could ever meet.

They live on a small piece of land in the country in rural Wisconsin. Since retirement, Gary and his wife would earn money selling firewood, plants, paintings (Suanne) and helping their Amish neighbors take care of their livestock.

They just took a loan to purchase a truck on their 44th wedding anniversary, less than 2 months ago, because the one they had before was so old and undependable that my mom was too scared to use it.

As you can see, they need a lot of help, first just to get Gary breathing on his own. He hasn't even eaten anything since before the accident on January 2.

Any and all help is appreciated, as his life and my Mother, Suanne Lorraine Cepek has been completely altered by this accident. He is still hospitalized and under critical care in Gundersen Lutheran in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

My mother currently needs to drive back and forth between their house in Elroy to prevent the wood-stove heated house from freezing and the pipes from breaking.

The house needs to be adapted so as to allow for mobility when he gets home. He is 6 1/2 feet tall (2 meters) and needs extra support for his large stature.
