Celebrating the Life of Shauna Hurley

Donation protected
Shauna was born on October 20th, 1997 in Lloydminster, Alberta.

I don't remember much of the early years with her, but one strong memory I have is sharing a bedroom with Shauna in a two bedroom apartment when we were 7 and 5. Our dad setup both of our beds in the room and tore down the closet doors to make it as fun as we could with little space. I remember our mom left on a cruise with a friend, and our dad helped us make a huge blanket fort and completely messed up the room, but we had so much fun.

Another amazing memory I have is trading sleepover locations with mine and Shauna's friends, since we had so many friends with siblings the same age as us. Some weekends my friends and her friends would get together at my parents place, take over the huge basement and enjoy pizza and video games.

Since there was only two years between us, Shauna and I found ourselves doing a lot together, having similar friends groups, interests and activities. Shauna was my confidant, my support system and my friend on top of being my sister.

Most recently, my fiance and I were able to attend thanksgiving dinner with my family, my fiance's parents, brother and his girlfriend and Shauna's boyfriend. It was a wonderful experience to have so many people meet for the first time. I had hoped for more experiences with Christmas and other holidays to get to know her boyfriend and have our families intertwine.

Shauna was also involved in both the Dewberry figure skating club coaching and the Lloydminster figure skating club for 13+  years, achieving gold medals for several years of outstanding work. She was also employed and involved with the Lloydminster SPCA and Vermillion Animal Hospital, because she always had a passion for working with animals of all kinds.

Shauna was a kind, bold and stubborn soul. She had a drive unmatched by the people around her. She wanted to get out and live her life, so she moved to Saskatoon. She wanted to go back to school, and pushed to get her practicum completed for her education. She strived for a full time job as a Dental Assistant, and had found love with Alex, her boyfriend. Shauna was unstoppable and deeply loved by so many family, friends, and others.

From day one, Shauna was given a stacked hand of cards against her. At the age of 13, Shauna was diagnosed with Adolescent Epilepsy. She knew the road ahead of her was going to be a long and hard one, but that didn't stop her. She was told she couldn't get her drivers license until she could go 2 years without a seizure, and she pushed through to achieve her dreams. Ten years later, she had been seizure free and moved away to have her own apartment and was starting her own family and social circle. Shauna peacefully passed due to a SUDEP seizure in her apartment on Wednesday, October 28th in the early morning.

Shauna was loved by so many people, including her parents Tina and Shawn, her siblings Joey (Shawn) and Justina, her beloved dog and companion Winston, her many friends, including Rachel, Sarah, Kaelyn, her boyfriend Alex, and countless aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of our large extended family.

We will be gathering together for a funeral service for her on Tuesday, November 3rd, as well as an opportunity for prayers on Monday, November 2nd. We will update this page with times and other important information.

Any support Shauna's friends or family or others wish to put in, will be put towards funeral costs and other memorial needs. Thank you for taking the time to hear Shauna's story and I look forward to hearing other's stories about her.

I love you Shauna. Thank you for always pushing me to be a better, happier and kinder person. I will always treasure all the funny, angry, sad, shitty and hilarious memories we had together.

May we meet again, and love always, your favourite brother, Joey Hurley.
