“Until we sing again” paying tribute to Hermie

Jeremias Tiongson: “Pa” my grandfather, dad, and hero all in one. 


2020, a year of uncertainty, a global pandemic, natural disasters, and chaos has been a hard
year for the world to digest. As I sit here writing this Go-Fund Me, I’m given the hardest pill
I’ve ever had to swallow. My “Pa,” Jeremias
Tiongson, or Hermie to many, is slowly slipping away to his battle of cancer. Though I know this time for many families dealing with cancer is usually a sad time, my family and I look back at all the good memories and life lessons he
passed on to us throughout his life.

Growing up with my grandparents a majority of my 26 years of life, my Pa was always a faithful and active officer in the Iglesia ni Cristo, Church of Christ. He was active in the church community holding various duties and responsibilities up until he physically was unable to perform his duties. He served as a head deacon in our congregation and took care of the brethren anyway he could, visiting and praying for them, even picking them up if they didn’t have a ride to church.

My Grandpa dedicated the last 30 years of his life in raising children that were not his own. From driving and picking my sisters and I up to and from school, making sure we were always fed despite how poor we were growing up..he always found a way. He instilled within me the importance of kindness and the value of hard work through his unsolicited acts of service.  He loved performing and entertaining others. He was compassionate and loved unconditionally. I’ve always looked up to him and always will. Being one of the few male figures in my life, he’s my hero and his biggest fan. I want to be his during this time. 

I know we are all living in difficult times emotionally and financially due to the effects of our current world, but I’m asking for any help you may be able to give towards my grandfather’s end of life expenses. He’s helped so many people in his life, and it’s my turn to ask help for him. Of his whole family, my grandmother, my mom, and 2 sisters are the only ones here stateside while his 3 other children and 8 grandchildren are all living in the Philippines. The goal is to have my grandfather’s funeral in the Philippines. With the costs of oversea shipping, funeral service and the plot. We need all the help that we can get.
