A Celebration of Black Dance

Introduction:
A Celebration of Black is a pilot dance festival and grassroots production that strives to showcase Chicago’s black dance talent, and also bring life, light, energy, and love back into the black dance community.

Mission:
The mission of A Celebration of Black Dance is to preserve and bring together Chicago’s Black Dance Community in efforts to share our rich culture, traditions, experiences, vitality, and energy through dance and performance. This production seeks to demonstrate the important role that dance plays in celebrating our journeys as those of African descent, creators, teachers, performers, sharers, nurturers and innovators in the arts.

Purpose:
A Celebration of Black Dance hopes to bring together Chicago’s professional Black Dance Artists, Companies , and Community by highlighting each company’s and individual’s strengths and contributions to dance in a festival setting. It is also our hope not to only share our creativity and work physically, but to allow ourselves to share and connect with each other emotionally, intellectually, and humbly in order to re-awaken the audience and allow them to re-imagine Black Dance in Chicago.
