Help Ricardo beat cancer

Four weeks ago, my dad was diagnosed with cancer type IV in his throat and esophagus which had extended to other organs.

Currently, he can only digest liquid food because he can’t swallow. My mom is making a great effort to cook for him and prepare all the food possible. I’ve sent liquid proteins and vitamins so he can get as many nutrients as possible.

My dad doesn’t have health insurance, and the Venezuelan health system is quite precarious. The only access to healthcare is through the private sector with payments in dollars.

The treatment the doctor suggested for him is Six chemotherapy sessions. My mom has accepted the massive task of finding the medicines for it and the sessions through the public sector. However, I can’t afford all the private exams, doctor's appointments and liquid proteins.

I wouldn’t imagine that six months after almost losing my mom to a fire, and after all the efforts to help her, I would find myself in this uncomfortable situation of asking for support; but that’s how life is, even though it’s hard to accept. My mom and I can’t do all of this on our own.

I still have no savings as migrations processes (I’m going through my 3rd one) are costly. Furthermore, it is expensive to be alone and an only child. I understand not many of you can help with money, and I genuinely appreciate your good wishes and emotional support because if something is challenging about being away is losing a support network.

Hace 4 semanas mi papá fue diagnosticado con cancer de tipo IV, en la garganta y en el esófago y se ha extendido a otros órganos también. Actualmente sólo puede digerir líquidos, porque no puede tragar. Mi mamá está haciendo el gran esfuerzo de cocinarle y prepararle todo lo que está a su alcance. Yo por mi parte he enviado proteínas y vitaminas líquidas para que se mantenga lo más nutrido posible.

Mi papá no tiene seguro médico y el sistema de salud en Venezuela es bastante precario. El único acceso es a través de médicos privados con pagos en dólares. Le han mandado eI tratamiento de 6 sesiones de quimioterapia para empezar lo antes posible.

Mi mamá ha aceptado la titánica tarea de conseguir a través de organismos públicos las medicinas de la quimioterapia y las sesiones. Sin embargo, no tengo cómo pagar los exámenes privados, visitas al oncólogo, aparte de las proteínas y vitaminas líquidas.

Nunca me hubiera imaginado y mucho menos deseado después de 6 meses de casi perder a mi mamá en un incendio, encontrarme de nuevo en esta incómoda situación de pedir ayuda. Pero la vida es como es, aunque me cueste aceptarla y, mi mamá y yo, no podemos solas con todo esto.

Yo no tengo ahorros, los procesos migratorios son costosos (este es mi 3ro) y es aun mas dificil estar sola y ser hija única. Entiendo que no todos puedan ayudar monetariamente y agradezco también los buenos deseos y el apoyo afectuoso también, porque si hay algo difícil de migrar, es estar lejos y no tener una red de apoyo.
