On Sunday October 29th our lives would forever be changed. We brought my son Kaleb to the hospital thinking his bronchitis had relapsed and that he was dehydrated only to be told he needed a blood transfusion because his red blood count and platelets were dangerously low. The next morning every mother's worst nightmare became reality when we were told that Kaleb had Leukemia. We were immediately transferred to Ochsners in New Orleans for further evaluation. He had to have another transfusion, a bone marrow biopsy, and a central line port put in right above his heart. Doctors confirmed he has Acute Myeloid Leukemia and would need chemo therapy for the next 5-9 months. Due to the risk of infection we may not be able to have any home treatments which puts him and I with him at the hospital full time. We will spend the holidays as well as his 19th birthday in  the hosptial undergoing treatment. Kaleb has an amazing positive spirit and would give the shirt off of his back to help anyone in need. He is my hero and I want to make sure he doesnt go without during this time and that we can afford for my husband and younger son to spend the weekends here with us. It is 2 1/2 hour drive from where we live to the hospital. These funds will help to sustain Kaleb and our family while missing work and for anything else he needs during this difficult time. There are several prescriptions he has to be on at all times and we are having issues with getting some of them approved through his insurance. For just one of his medications cost us $2617 out of our pocket until it’s approved. We appreciate any donations and all the prayers. To know Kaleb is truly to love him....
