My dad, Christopher Buchanan, is a 44 year old man born and raised in Chatham, IL. In 2011, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He has recently been diagnosed with a recurrence of cancer, but this time it has metastasized to his rib, liver and pelvis.
For the last eight years, my dad has been a single father and sole provider for myself and my two siblings who are currently 21 and 13. Prior to his original diagnosis in 2011, he made a living for himself and us working for his grandfather’s moving company. He has continued to work as much as he could through surgeries, chemotherapy and immunotherapy, but has not been able to completely recover physically or financially since his original diagnosis.
Unfortunately, with the recurrence of his cancer and the treatment that lies ahead he is not able to work. If or when he will be able to return is currently questionable. This leaves him and our family in a financial crisis. With no source of income, he faces losing his and my sibling’s home that he has fought so hard to keep, losing any ability to pay for bills (including medical), and struggling to support my siblings, especially my 13 year old brother, or himself.
My dad is our hero. He has always worked so hard at everything. Including being the best dad, the best basketball and baseball coach for my brother’s teams, and being an overall great person. My dad and our family need help more than ever during this difficult time. We are reaching out in the hopes of helping hands. We wish it didn’t have to come to this but extra help is truly appreciated.
