Maureen's Multiple Sclerosis Fund

Donation protected
Hello. I am a 41-year-old woman that has been living with multiple sclerosis for the past 10 years as well as a seizure disorder since I was 25. I am losing my mobility, eyesight, and bladder control due to MS. But I am determined not to lose my spirit. Despite numerous challenges, I fight every day to walk the path laid before me. I am an artist, music lover, dreamer, and a big fan of animals. My service dog, Otis, is my constant companion. He truly is the brightest light on this crazy journey called my life.

In addition to my medical issues, I have recently found myself in a crisis situation. I was robbed, beaten, and raped on July 4th, 2017. While I am thankful to have survived the brutal attack, I am not out of harm’s way. As a result, I need to relocate quickly. I have been given the amazing opportunity to move into a safer environment. But I do not have the resources to cover the relocation expenses or replace my orthopedic bed, which has been ruined due to my incontinence issues. These things will completely transform my life.

The two people that constantly care for me are my elderly parents. I love them both very much. I can't thank them enough for the help they continuously give to me. I wish I could have a handicap ramp installed at their place so I could easily access their home. Especially since a wheelchair is going to be part of my very near future.

Speaking of wheels, I'm extremely grateful to still be able to drive. However, my 17-year-old car needs a little work. Once I relocate, I will need to drive a further distance to see loved ones, doctors, specialists, physical therapists, and, hopefully, a counselor that can help me work through my emotions so I can become mentally stronger and healthier. I envision a future where I am in a place to give back to others.

I wish I could afford the internet because I can't get out much, and I would love to stay in contact with the ones I miss so much. And reconnect with so many others. Throughout the years, I have lost a lot of friends. While I understand some people can't deal with illness, it's been a really rough time. I am often alone, lonely, and scared. It's also been a tremendous learning experience. I am thankful to be alive, thankful for every opportunity that comes my way.

So, I'm asking for your help. Please help me relocate, help me get the medical bed I need, help me visit my parents, help me get to my appointments, help me take care of Otis, help me rise up as a survivor of assault. If there's any way you can make a donation to this fund, please know you are helping to change my life. Each and every donation will be appreciated in more ways than I can express.

Thank you for taking the time to read about me and my journey. Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for helping to make my wishes come true. Thank you for helping me to continue my story.

Yours in gratitude,

Maureen and Otis
