Cambodian Buddhist Association's Vision
The Cambodian Buddhist Association is an important organization that helps to preserve the Khmer heritage and culture. Our goal is to build a stronger Cambodian community. We help strengthen relationships among fellow Cambodians and thereby with the community at large. We provide a place of peace and tranquility. We created a place for the next Cambodian-American generation to continue to learn, grow, embrace traditional Khmer culture/ values and provide a social support network for those in need. The Cambodian Buddhist Association also offers services for those who practice Buddha’s philosophy to help enhance their personal and social happiness.
CBA's Mission Statement
To help Cambodian people enrich their way of life by providing services such as:
-Teach Cambodian culture and traditions through lectures and traditional performing arts
-Teach Buddha’s principles such as: virtue, proper conduct, morality, moral discipline, and precept
-Teach Khmer/English language
-Provide meditation training
-Provide various counseling services
-Provide community support
CBA’s Fundraiser Request
For the past thirty-two years, CBA struggled to accommodate and meet the needs of our growing population. Due to the growing number of members, CBA recently purchased a new building located in Des Plaines, IL.
The new location will provide adequate space needed for all events and activities per our mission statement. This larger space will provide a cultural learning center for Cambodian people to continue to preserve and embrace their Cambodian heritage and Khmer language. Another benefit is that we could create classrooms for children in order to create a more conducive and welcoming learning environment. We would also like to provide a safe haven and learning center for our seniors.
The new location would be accommodating enough to hold cultural events and special services as well. However, the current building needs to undergo construction and remodeling in order to meet the needs of its members. Funds need to be raised in order to construct a kitchen, bathrooms, offices, living/study room, and living quarters for the monks.
The estimated cost for this remodeling is $150,000. We kindly ask for any donations that will help us achieve this goal. All donations will be tax-deductible.
