Cathy Smith passed away unexpectedly at home on February 16th.
Unfortunately, Cathy was not prepared for this event and the cost of funeral expenses is presenting itself as an issue.
We would like to take up donations to offset the cost of the funeral expenses.
In an effort to make a tribute to Cathy I have scoured through the beautiful things that everyone has said about her and compiled them.
A limb has fallen from the ERH family tree! But to say Cathy was just a limb might not even be enough of representation of what an impact she was. Cathy was the trunk, the roots of our ERH family tree.
Her presence brought such peace and compassion to everyone she came in contact with. Our community and our lives will be at such a loss without Cathy in this world.
Cathy fully embodied all of the attributes of Florence Nightingale. So much so that she rightfully earned the nickname of Florence. Florence might have been the founder of modern nursing but Cathy was the one who continued to carry that torch into nursing of today.
Cathy was a mentor and the voice of the nurses. She continually empowered them to speak up for themselves and to advocate for their patients. Cathy had a directness about her that never offended anyone, she always spoke her mind and was lovingly honest.
To say that Cathy was loved would actually be an understatement. Cathy was adored, respected and cherished. Everyone whose lives were touched by Cathy will now aspire to live as selflessly as she did. To honor Cathy, we should be the best nurse we can be, the best coworker and the best family member. This would be the best effort at making the world a little better than it is.
