Hi!
I'm Ted Macie and I'm on a mission to qualify and run the Boston Marathon to raise money and awareness for Camp Cortisol. Over some time the goal became so much bigger and more empowering than a single person running.
#CatchMeIfYouCamp has grown to include fellow athlete and fellow Camp Cortisol family member, Anna Arsenault, Ashley and my wife, Mara, who decided to join with me and start TEAM #CatchMeIfYouCamp!
Camp Cortisol is now a 501(c)(3)!! Camp is a place where families of children and adults with a rare genetic form of adrenal insufficiency go, once a year, to meet others in their shoes. Adrenal Insufficiency is a life threatening condition which requires close monitoring. People with Adrenal Insufficiency have an impaired, if not zero, ability to produce cortisol which is a life sustaining steroid produced by the adrenal glands. In the most extreme cases the ability to produce aldosterone (another life essential steroid) is also impaired. There is no cure for this form of adrenal insufficiency and it requires daily medicine several times throughout the day.
The bonds formed at Camp Cortisol are life-changing and a huge milestone for our community which will serve the children as they grow into adulthood. These children, unlike the generations before them, will never have to feel alone in handling their adrenal dysfunction.
