Medical Mission to Haiti
I volunteer with Haitian Heritage and Friends of Haiti (www.hhfoh.org). We are a not-for-profit organization based in Charlotte, NC. We lead medical mission trips to northern Haiti.
Donations will be directly used to assist in distributing medical supplies to those in Haiti who do not have access to healthcare in the form of mobile medical clinics.
Our next trip to operate our mobile clinic is planned for January 1st - 7th. In Haiti, there are only 2.5 physicians and 2 nurses per ten thousand people. Only one-fourth of births are attended by a skilled health professional. Most rural areas have no access to health care, making residents susceptible to otherwise treatable diseases.
The needs are great. During previous trips, volunteers treated over 1000 patients in 4 days. A variety of medical conditions are treated on site, including but not limited to simple illnesses, uti's, infections, boils, tropical diseases, uncontrolled hypertension and diabetes to name a few.
The cost of the trip is $1600. This includes flights, in country travel, hotel, food and all other expenses while in Haiti.
