Carrie's Fund

On July 2nd, Carrie, Colt, and their friend were in a car accident. Their car was hit from behind, and Carrie was sitting in the backseat. Carrie was airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center where she spent 5 days in the ICU. While the other passengers in the car sustained minor injuries, Carrie's injuries were severe. In order to hold her pelvic bone in place, she had a plate and pins inserted. She suffered fractures to her spine as well. As a result of the accident, on July 18, Carrie made the difficult decision to have her right leg amputated below the knee. This followed many surgeries, and an uncertainty that she would ever use her leg again. Afterwards, the doctors made it very clear that she made the right choice. Carrie has undergone 20 surgeries to date. Once she is released from DHMC, she will go to rehab at Mount Ascutney Hospital.

Carrie is one of the most positive and determined people I know. I am lucky enough to call her family. Our family has always been close, and this accident has brought us even closer. Through this entire experience, Carrie's refrain has been "at least I am alive." Despite the pain, frustration and uncertainty, Carrie has continued to move forward. She is an inspiration to everyone around!

Many people have asked how they can help and what they can do. Sending Carrie positive thoughts and messages is definitely welcome! Donations of cash would also be so helpful. Carrie and Colt have so many things to think about right now, and we would love to take bills and other expenses off that list. Eventually, when Carrie is out of the hospital, rehab, and fully recovered, they would love to take a small vacation to celebrate making it through this difficult time. It is always hard to ask for help, but any donation - of any size - is greatly appreciated.

We are so glad that Carrie is with us and staying so strong. Our family thanks you for all the love and support you have shown.
