Carpenters Without Borders

Tax deductible
carpenterswithoutborders.org The only way to address the immigration crisis affecting our hemisphere is to create jobs in Latin America. Carpenters Without Borders trains communities without economic opportunity in the techniques of fine woodworking to create products that we market around the world.

Probably we’ve all noticed that there is an immigration crisis happening on our southern border. Guatemala is one of the largest contributors of individuals and families travelling through Mexico to reach the United States. The problem starts here. As the world’s economy modernizes, what place is there for the almost 7 million Guatemalans under the age of 25 and without more than an elementary level of education? What about their counterparts in Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador?

This is an issue that needs to be thought of as a problem facing our hemisphere, and that can only be solved with solutions that include the hemisphere as a whole.

For this reason we've started Carpenters Without Borders. We are working to connect consumers in the United States with a product that creates opportunities in Central America. Our project works because it fits into the way of life that exists in the communities we serve. Graduates of our paid, two week training course are able to work from their homes and dedicate a portion of each day to woodworking. By providing the individuals working with us with wood and tools, and then buying back finished pieces as they are completed, participants are able to maintain their plots of land, raise their children, and run a household all while earning enough to support a family.

This is where you come in. We’re asking for your help to jumpstart our training program. Buying tools and creating the initial group of carpenters. Unlike many non-profits, once we are up and running our organization will become self-sustainable as we continue to market our products around the world.

Every donation at or above the $250 mark will be added to our VIP donors list! Once we start shipping our chairs to the US we'll contact everyone who donated at this level for a VIP discount and an early opportunity to place orders!
