Caron Family Medical Fund

Natalie Caron, 23, and Jessica Harrod,26, are sisters that are fighting health issues and massive medical bills. On August 16,2012, they lost their father, Andy Caron (51-year-old father of 4) to colorectal cancer. Recently, they tested positive for Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP).  This is an inherited disorder caused by a genetic mutation characterized by cancer of the colon and rectum.  People with the classic type of FAP may begin to develop many polyps in their teenage years and unless their colon is removed, the polyps will become cancerous by their 30’s.   All four of the Caron children had to undergo testing for this condition when Natalie was diagnosed with FAP at the end of April. Their sister, Amie, and brother, Garrett, tested clear of this disorder.  Due to Jessica and Natalie testing positive for this mutated gene, and performing colonoscopies finding thousands of colon polyps, the doctors stated that they both faced a 100% chance of having colorectal cancer by age 30.  Both young ladies have to face multiple surgeries within the year to save their lives.  The first surgeries for the girls were performed in June, 2017.   This involved the surgeon removing their colon and rectum and forming a new rectal vault (called a J-pouch) with a portion of the small intestine.  Then the plan was to have a temporary ileostomy for 2 months allowing the J-pouch to heal prior to reconnecting the small intestine to the healed J-pouch. Afterwards they would go on to lead normal lives.  
Jessica's surgery (6/23/2017) went smoothly and despite pain, some post-surgical complications with infection, dehydration, and weight loss, she is now doing well.  Her J-pouch is healed and she has her next surgery scheduled to reconnect her small intestine to her J-pouch and remove her ileostomy on 9/6/2017.
Natalie's surgery (6/30/2017) involved some complications.  The J-pouch failed.  This meant she will have to keep her ileostomy indefinitely until they can travel to a specialty hospital to try and reconnect her with some more cutting edge surgical procedures. She will require at least 2 more surgeries.  During her recovery she faced some complications causing her to be re-hospitalized for a few days.  She is doing much better now.  
Thanks to the grace of God and modern medical technology, these young ladies will never have colorectal cancer. 
Thousands of dollars in medical bills have already arrived for the part of their surgeries and hospitalizations not covered by insurance.  In addition, they both have more surgeries they are facing.  They have both been unable to work due to complications and the recovery process.  Jessica has been able to return to work.
