Support Carolyn’s Cancer Journey

Dear Friends,

Never did I think I would be starting a GoFundMe page for my sister… here is her story.

On August 2, 2018 Carolyn heard the words from her doctor we all fear… you have cancer.   My heart still breaks knowing Carolyn was alone when she got this devastating news.  She had been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in both ovaries.

Her cancer journey began shortly thereafter, on August 19, 2018 when she had surgery at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston to remove the tumors.  Our family held onto the small hope that the tumors would be benign.  When Carolyn woke up in the recovery room, with a heavy heart, I had to tell my sister the tumors were indeed malignant.  She quietly closed her eyes and the tears rolled down her face.  At this same time, Carolyn was also diagnosed with Stage 1 Endometrial Cancer.  Her oncology team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston determined she had a rare form of cancer.  Ovarian and endometrial cancers do not typically grow together.

As soon as Carolyn got the okay from her doctor, she flew to Tampa, Florida to see her son Mitch at college.  Carolyn needed to tell him in person about her diagnosis.  She didn't want him to hear it from someone else or to be scared and worried.  Carolyn wanted him to be reassured that she - they - would be okay, that's just the kind of mother my sister is.   Unfortunately, Mitch knows firsthand all about the "C word.”  He lost one of his best childhood friends of 15 years to Stage 4 liver cancer at the unimaginable young age of 17.

Carolyn received chemotherapy treatments at Dana Farber Cancer Institute.  My sister handled it like a rock star she had good days and bad days, and even on the bad days never complained.  She simultaneously continued working with all of her skincare clients in Boston during her treatments.  You know that cute stylish haircut you have seen on her, it's not a haircut, it is new hair growth.  Carolyn lost all her hair from the chemotherapy, some people say it's only hair, it will grow back, as women our hair is a big part of our identity.  Carolyn sadly but bravely found out that losing her hair was indeed a very personal and gut-wrenching experience, and baseball hats and wigs quickly became her friends.

Fast forward to August 2, 2019 when Carolyn celebrated one year Cancer Free!!  She was on top of the world and ready for a new lease on life.  However, a short five months later, during a regular health check a CT chest scan showed multiple lung nodules.  Just before Christmas of 2019 Carolyn had a lung biopsy, once again, devastating news.  The cancer had returned and metastasized to Carolyn’s lungs, having spread from the original Endometrioid Adenocarcinoma.  As I sat there with my sister, my heart broke for her to hear those words once again.

From the onset, Carolyn has remained very quiet and private about her illness and treatments.  Our family, and a handful of her closest friends have known what she has been going through.  Carolyn simply did not want people worrying about her.  Things are about to become very different and loud now for my strong, independent, free-spirited, generous, loving, single mom sister.  She needs all the help, love, prayers, and financial support she can get.  Carolyn has been investing many hours researching her cancer, as well as traditional Western medicine and alternative treatment options.  She does not want to go through the hell of having poisonous chemo put into her body again, no more chemo or radiation, her immune system needs to be reset and strengthened. Carolyn’s wish is to be immersed in Integrative Immunotherapy treatment at CHIPSA HOSPITAL in Tijuana, Mexico, the original Gerson Hospital, and will be starting treatment by March 15, 2020.  She will stay at the hospital for 21 days and be treated with Insulin Potential Therapy, Coley's CPG Therapy, Apatone Therapy, IV Ozone Therapy, Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments, VG-5000, Gerson Immunotherapy Protocol, along with a focus on the emotional and spiritual aspect of Carolyn's cancer journey.  At the end of the three week treatment plan, she will be discharged and return home to continue three additional months of treatment.

Unfortunately, as we suspected, Carolyn's medical insurance will not cover any of the $35,000 cost.  I am asking each person who knows and loves Carolyn to please donate to help get her to where she knows she needs to be, to rid herself of this awful disease and begin her healing journey toward living a full life once again.

You got this Carolyn!
From the bottom of my heart thank you all!
