Carolyn Barr Medical Expenses

Donation protected
On October 5, 2017, Kendra took her mother, Carolyn Barr, to Nashville Tennessee to have back surgery. The surgery was rather intense and was scheduled over a three day period. The plan was to have surgery on the 9th, 11th, 13th and return to Huntington on the 16th for recovery and physical therapy. During the second surgery, Carolyn suffered a series of strokes and was ultimately diagnosed with post op psychosis. Carolyn remained in the hospital until November 7th and was transferred to a skilled nursing facility in Franklin Tennessee where she remains. At this time Carolyn needs constant care because she is unable to sit, stand, walk or go to the restroom without assistance.

During the last 60 days Kendra has had to stay with her mother around the clock. She is 400 miles from home with no other assistance. She packed clothes for a ten day trip and she is now approaching 60 days. Kendra paid 1200 dollars so her mother could have a private room at the nursing facility which would allow Kendra to stay there and provide care for her mother and place for Kendra to sleep. Carolyn had a follow up appointment with her doctor on Thursday November 30th. The doctor, although pleased with the healing of the surgery, feels Carolyn needs to remain in the nursing facility at least another 20 days. If Carolyn Can be released, then Kendra faces the problem of how to get her mother home. Due to her current condition Carolyn is unable to ride in a car. Kendra has contacted Jan Care ambulance service for transport and they quoted her 8000 dollars. She contacted Cabell County EMS and they quoted her 4000 dollars. Medicare stopped making payments for Carolyn’s skilled nursing home on the 26th of November so Kendra will be billed 165 dollars per day after that.

Kendra has been off from work since October 5th and the police department has worked with her to use sick time as emergency leave. She was due to retire after 26+ years of service in January 2018 but those plans are currently on hold until she gets her mother home and is able to find a way to provide care for her.

Kendra has had to pay 1200 dollars for a room for her mother and her to stay for the past 50+ days and attempted to maintain two households. If Carolyn is unable to make a car ride home, she will have to pay at least 4000 dollars to provide transportation home for her mother and she is unsure when she will be able to return to work. All of these unfortunate circumstances have left Kendra and Carolyn in desperate need of any assistance that can be provided.
