Carol's fight against Lymes Disease

Donation protected
Hi guys,  I'm after setting up this go fund me page to raise money for my cousin Carol Grennan (Coughlan) who is originally from Ferbane and is currently living in killiegh Co. Offaly. 6 years ago Carol was living an active life and working as a care assistant, she had just completed 2 half marathons but had found the last one difficult, even the shortest of distances became a struggle but put this down to working long hours. In early April 2014 the symptoms became rapidly worse, Carol had been admitted to hospital many times in the first few months where her symptoms included blackouts, chest pains, rapid heart rate, trouble breathing, leg spasms, headaches, memory loss, brain fog and chronic fatigue, doctors were baffled. The blackouts are the worst part as she gets to warning before it happens which has left her extremely anxious and nervous to go anywhere. In 2016 Carol finally met with Doctor Lambert who is the top infection disease doctor in Ireland, he sent her blood to Germany where Carol finally got a diagnosis of Lymes Disease, but that was just the beginning of a very long and disheartening journey which brought her to alot of dead ends. She initially took antibiotics for a year and a half and started to feel an improvement in her health she had approximately 10 months without blackouts and some of the other symptoms seemed to improve too.  Last year (2019) things started to deteriorate, she went to Dr. Lambert and her told her she was experiencing a relapse. The blackouts had got worse and more frequent and the antibiotics were not working as the Lymes Disease was more aggressive this time. At this current time Carol is basically house bound all her independence and privacy has gone. Carol is forced to rely on her husband Willie and there two teenage children Tiernan (17) and Aoibhe (13) who help her with her daily routine that me or you take for granted, Carol can't even lock a door so simple things like taking a shower or using the bathroom are no longer private. Carol can't even use the stairs normally any more, she has to sit on her bottom and shuffle her way down as she has had several blackouts coming down the stairs. She can't drive, she needs someone to bring her where ever she needs to go and is very frustrating on her. At the age of only 40 Carol has had to give up work, running, girly day trips with her daughter, bringing her son to training, school runs or even just heading to her parents 20 minutes away in ferbane all of this was taken from her just to mention a few, however there is finally light at the end of the tunnel and a chance to ragain some of her independence again, Carol has been accepted to an Integrative Lyme Disease Program in Germany where they specialise in treating this condition, where as Ireland don't have the knowledge or facilities to treat this rare condition. It is a year long intensive program which of course brings cost, the basic treatment price starts at €30000 and has a success rate of 99.5%. This is why I am seeking for everyones help any donation is greatly appreciated to get Carol on the road to recovery, Carol has always had such a positive mindset throughout the whole journey but since her relapse she has hit a low, the last few weeks have taken its toll on her mentally as well as physically with numerous blackouts happing in public. Please help me along with all her family and friends getting her back to her normal positive bubbly healthy Carol. We have only 4 weeks to try and raise the money which I know is a big ask but I know there is alot of people out there that will help such a deserving cause. Thank you all for reading this and please help spread the word. I will keep everyone updated over the next few weeks.  Laura Maher
