What’s Carols Cause? 

We are raising money for a highly effective mental health charity who helps prevent suicide, and offer support to the vulnerable. 16 people die by suicide every single day of the year in the UK on average. The NHS cannot accommodate the growing problem, because as good as they can be, they don’t have the resources. 

The reason this cause means so much 

THIS is our storey… Carol Wellfair was our wonderful mum who really was a total legend and a fun loving beaut.

Sadly mum took her own life due to her poor mental health through no fault of her own. Mum was the last person you would expect to read this story about. 

A Christian woman, wife, mother to four children and a grandmother to seven grandchildren that she was immensely proud of. She devoted her life to helping other people, especially those in need.

Like so many others that are sadly in the same predicament as us, we never in a million years thought this could happen, especially not to someone like mum. It has taught us a really hard lesson, that anyone is at risk of poor mental health and suicide.

We have all heard about the state of the mental health services in the UK, but it’s not until you need those services, that you realise how desperate the situation is. We believe mum was let down by the system and that this could have been prevented if the right action had been taken. The right action often involves funds that simply aren’t available.

We can’t fix the mental health crisis, but because mum is such a credit to us, and led by example in making the world a better place, we feel compelled to help these vulnerable people in anyway we can. We have therefore chosen to raise funds for charity by in honour of mum. 

We know she would want us to help as many people as we can because she cared so deeply about people. There are a whole host of individuals that can tell you mum made a difference to their lives.

The world was a better place with this incredible person in it. It’s a complete tragedy to lose such a gift of a human, but her legacy lives through us and will continue to do so.

Suicide Crisis  - A local charity that tries to fill the gap when resources aren’t there to support those going through serious mental health episodes. Incredibly, they have never lost a patient and they help campaign for change. http://www.suicidecrisis.co.uk/
