Help Carmen Johnson Fight Advanced Breast Cancer

Carmen Johnson has been a dedicated teacher’s aide for 15 years at Brookwood Elementary in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her spirit, enthusiasm and love for children has touched many lives. The time had come for her to retire and enjoy life of travel and adventure. An advanced cancer diagnosis has disrupted all of her plans, it is devastating news for all of her family and friends.
In June 2020, Carmen discovered a lump in her right breast. The initial lumpectomy and lymph nodes taken were all cancerous. A subsequent PET scan and bone biopsy determined Carmen has cancerous bone lesions. Chemotherapy is not an option at this stage so she will be on drug therapy to extend her life
Carmen has two daughters in their early 20’s facing the challenge of finding jobs in this COVID-19 era. Her son is married and works in Tucson, Arizona. After insurance, the costs of Carmen’s treatment are far beyond the financial capability of her family. This is why we are establishing a Go Fund Me.
It’s hard to know how to share this news. Close family knows but Carmen’s wider network of friends might only be learning of this. We are sorry if this is how you learn of her cancer.
