Carly Stoltenberg can be easily described as a vivacious, beautiful, compassionate, funny, intelligent, hard-working, and awe inspiring individual, who is loved by everyone. She was healthy, fit, and loving her life as a devoted daughter, loving sister, incredible mother, amazing girlfriend, outstanding speech-language pathologist, amazing EBS Healthcare Regional Director, and a precious friend to all that have ever met her.
Last Saturday, April 8, Carly went to the ER with numbness and tingling in her hands, feet, arms and legs. She was diagnosed shortly thereafter with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS).
GBS is a very rare disorder, affecting about 1 in 100,000 people, in which the body's immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system. The first symptoms of this disorder include varying degrees of weakness or tingling sensations in the legs. In many instances the symmetrical weakness and abnormal sensations spread to the arms and upper body. These symptoms may increase in intensity until certain muscles cannot be used at all. GBS is an autoimmune disease.
Currently, Carly is having difficulty with significant weakness in her arms, hands, feet and legs. She is also experiencing double vision, causing her to need to wear an eye patch. Carly is very weak, causing her to have difficulty with talking and breathing, as she tires easily. She is currently totally dependent on others for her activities of daily living.
Because Carly is going to need to be hospitalized for an extended period to receive plasmapheresis treatments, followed by an extensive stay in an inpatient rehabilitation setting in order to receive speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy to regain her strength, TEAM CARLY is establishing this Go Fund Me Page as a way to organize financial support for Carly and her two very precious children while she is unable to work.
Funds will pay medical bills, expenses for her and her children, and provide for anything needed while she is away from work and working very hard to regain her strength and vitality.
Carly is approaching this situation as she does all others, LIKE A BOSS, with a positive and sunny outlook that is awe inspiring, yet not surprising to all that know and love her.
