Carlos Moran Legacy

Carlos Samuel Moran was born in Brooklyn, New York. At the age of 4, he moved to Minnesota with his family. He grew up with his loving parents and brother and sister. After graduating from Eden Prairie High School in 2003, he served two tours in Iraq and Kuwait for a total of 6 months and 19 days. He served with the 101st Airborne Division and Special Forces. Upon returning, he became a disabled veteran for hearing loss, damaged knees (from jumping out of planes), and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He earned 7 distrinugished medals including one for Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary. Carlos struggled with adjusting to civilian life after both tours, but was able to get help through the Veterans Affairs in Tennessee and the church he was attending, Church of Chances.
Tragically, Carlos was shot on Memorial Day (May 29th, 2017) after being robbed in Nashville. While he became unconscious and suffered greatly from his wounds, he was able to hold on for three more days until his family was able to visit him. He passed peacefully on June 1, 2017.
Carlos was always a positive and loving man, who loved dancing and helping out his friends and family. After returning from the war, fighitng the battles of PTSD, and readjusting to civilian life, one organization that was able to help him get back on his feet was the Church of Another Chance (CAC). The mission of CAC is to set God’s people free by walking in solidarity with each other to realize that God’s endless love sees all of us as whole and worthy of leading lives of importance, meaning and purpose.
By August 1, CAC expects to open the first transtitional living house that will provide rooms and services for 8 men. Nearly 70% of the men this organization serves have no suitable place to go once they are released, no transportation, or no form of identification. This may be the largest single obstacle these men face as they seek to bring to life the mission statement they have created while in our programs.
